What is Verein Innovation und Soziales?

Verein Innovation und Soziales is a Swiss non-profit association with its seat at Luisenstrasse 45, 3005 Bern. The association builds responsible, human-centred digital infrastructure in the public interest — at the intersection of technology, social inclusion, and governance, with a focus on refugee integration. It is exempt from taxation in the Canton of Bern and publishes its content in German, French, and English.

What purpose does the association pursue?

The mission of Verein Innovation und Soziales is to promote social integration, equality of opportunity, and digital innovation in the public interest. The association pursues exclusively non-profit purposes and acts according to the principles of public benefit, transparency, and measurable social impact. Its statutes provide for the promotion of innovation, social participation, education, digital inclusion, and integration. Three working objectives follow from this:

• Cooperation and development — interdisciplinary collaboration with academic institutions, authorities, civil society organisations, and private partners, in order to develop solutions with systemic social impact.
• Responsible use of technology — a safe framework for the human-centred use of digital technologies including AI in the public-benefit sector: privacy by design, ethical standards, transparency, and digital sovereignty.
• Access to public services — digital tools that make it easier to access federal, cantonal, and municipal services, in particular for refugees and people seeking protection — by making complex systems more understandable and navigable, and by reducing information barriers.

What problem does the association address?

The association’s work addresses a structural gap in the Swiss integration system: the fragmentation of services, data, and decision-making processes between actors who pursue the same goal but rarely act in a coordinated way. The association closes this gap with digital tools that serve three groups of beneficiaries at the same time.

Who does the association’s work serve?

• Refugees and migrants — navigating complex residence statuses, language barriers, and administrative systems that were never designed for them.
• NGOs and integration institutions — by reducing the operational burden of case management, enabling evidence-based service delivery, and amplifying the impact of frontline professionals.
• Cantonal and federal authorities — with privacy-compliant real-time analytics that turn reporting data into actionable insight for policy-making.

What does the association do — and what is ERIDA?

The association is the parent organisation, ERIDA is its flagship project: the two are not the same. ERIDA (Efficient Refugee Integration through Data Analytics) is an AI-supported digital infrastructure for refugee integration, initiated by Verein Innovation und Soziales. It is run as a separate product at erida.digital and described on this website.

The association itself works institutionally with Innosuisse, the University of Bern, and the Canton of Bern, and operates across Switzerland. It is led by a four-member board; it is represented, in accordance with its statutes and the commercial register entries, by the responsible board members. Donations to the association are tax-deductible for people liable to tax in Switzerland.
